Our Privacy Policy

Thank you for visiting us at Destination Medford! We respect and value your privacy, and this policy outlines how we collect, use, and protect your personal information while interacting with our site and associated applications.

Who we are

Destination Medford is an independent tourism initiative from local and small business owners in the suburban community of Medford, New Jersey. We created our social media feeds and website to showcase our community to a larger audience without making demands of the local government or existing associations. Our first efforts on Instagram at @destinationmedford expanded into a Destination Medford Facebook page and then into this site located at https://www.destinationmedford.org.

Personal Information

We may collect personal information, such as your name, email address, and phone number when you voluntarily provide it through our contact forms or newsletter sign-ups. We may use your personal information to respond to inquiries, send newsletters, and provide relevant information about our services. Clear opt-in and opt-out instructions are included with any messaging from the Destination Medford team.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on our site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitorโ€™s IP address and browser user agent string, to help with spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the third-party Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to our website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website may be able to download and extract any location data from images on the website. Our team uses media compression tools to automatically remove some of this information, but not all image formats are compatible with our server applications.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience, so you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.

The data collected through Google Analytics is used to analyze website traffic, improve our services, and may include cookies from their service platform.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on our site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor had visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

We use Google Analytics to collect information about your visit, including your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and pages visited. This information helps us analyze user behavior and improve our website.

Who do we share your data with?

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

Our website embeds content connections to Instagram. Interactions with embedded Instagram content are governed by Meta’s privacy policy for Instagram, which is available at https://www.instagram.com/legal/privacy/.

We may share your session information with third-party service providers, such as Google Analytics, to analyze website performance. These third parties are obligated to protect your information according to their privacy policies.

How long will we retain your data?

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users who register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights do you have over your data?

If you have an account on our site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Updates

We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes in our practices. We will notify you of any material changes through a prominent notice on the Destination Medford website.

If you have any questions about this privacy policy, please contact the Destination Medford team.

By using our website, you consent to the terms of this privacy policy.
